Locarno Beach is a modest pearl on the string of beaches lining English Bay. The beach runs into Spanish Banks on the west, and is separated from Jericho Park on the east by Jericho Pier. Both neighboring beaches have more amenities and open fields than Locarno, but the beach here draws plenty of visitors who are looking for a quieter vibe. In fact, Locarno is designated as a quiet beach by the city of Vancouver, which means that no amplified music is allowed. Picnicking, barbecuing, playing volleyball (there are six courts), and sun-bathing are the most popular activities. A concessionaire is available, as well as a restroom with flushing toilets. There's also an off-leash dog area set back from the beach on the south side of Northwest Marine Drive.
