Between Santa Cruz and San Francisco there are several scenic and easily-accessible California state beaches along Highway 1. Bean Hollow State Beach is a small park with restrooms and a few picnic tables on the bluff that overlooks the mix of sand and rocks of Arroyo de los Frijoles beach. This beach is the southernmost of the two beaches of Bean Hollow. There is a trail that follows the bluff north to Pebble Beach, about a mile away.

Bean Hollow Creek flows down to the beach right next to the parking area, and the wide, sandy beach south of the creek is steep and can have very turbulent waves and strong currents. To the north, around a small rocky point, the beach continues for about 200 yards. This is a nice spot for lunch or to watch the sunset.
