While North Twin Lake Campground is by no means a low-traffic campground, it is definitely the more quiet of the campgrounds in the north Wikiup Reservoir/Twin Lakes area of the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway in Central Oregon. Far fewer people visit North Twin Lake compared to its southern counterpart for day use water activities and overnight trips. This makes North Twin Lake a desirable option for camping in the area to avoid crowds both in the day and at night, yet you'll still be relatively close to each of the lakes in the area.

With that being said, not every campsite at North Twin Lake is a good one. While they are all comparable as far as driveway length and basic amenities (similar to every other campground in the area), the sites on the exterior of the one loop of the campground are far more spacious than the ones on the inside, which are extremely close together. Regardless, on weekdays, it's pretty likely that one can obtain a campsite on the outside, or not share the dense interior with many other campers at the very least. North Twin Lake also offers a small boat launch with a day use parking and picnic area. However, visitors ought to know that boats with motors are prohibited. In addition, the boat launch, while reasonably well-kept, is not paved, so the few people with non-motorized boats who do wish to put their boats in tiny North Twin Lake ought to keep this in mind.

Finally, to those who wish to fish North Twin Lake, trout fishing is normally good and the lake is accessible far more than other Cascade Lakes are in non-summer seasons. However, illegally introduced brown bullhead catfish prompted the state to poison North Twin Lake in the winter of 2015, which has killed all of the fish (including the trout) in the entire lake. The lake is safe to swim in and the state has re-stocked trout into the lake, but expect fishing to be somewhat slow in North Twin Lake for the time being.

a quiet campground with a lovely trail leading to noisier but more fun south twin lake. Camp on the outside of the loop or you will be making your neighbor a sandwhich while you inhale the aroma from the outhouse (which sits right in the center of the inside camp sites). A nice alternative if your favorite campground is full which is what we have used it for.
