Several trails leave from the Wyeth Campground, the most popular being the difficult trail towards North Lake.  A more relaxed option is the trail that crosses Gorton Creek and turns west for a great walk down the Columbia River Gorge.  The trail weaves through the dense Pacific Northwest forest and into the occasional clearings formed by fields of basalt rubble.  You’ll get great views of the conical Wind Mountain directly north of the Columbia River, and you’ll see Dog Mountain slightly east of that.  Keep looking up at the gorge walls, too, for you will pass directly under Indian Point near the middle of the hike.

After approximately 4 miles the trail intersects with the Gorton Creek Trail.  If you are looking to extend the hike, turn left for a challenging climb up to Indian Point, or turn right to wander down to the Herman Creek Trailhead and the Herman Creek Campground.

There is another hike that veers off of this trail called Wyeth Trail #411. It's moderate difficulty, the trail is well kept and has an incline the entire way to North Lake. It is a hike you would want to start early in the summer to avoid the heat. Good for backpacking, it's not crowded at all. There aren't very many views of the gorge.
