Of the seven campgrounds in Farragut State Park, Whitetail Campground is the one designated for car and tent camping. There are no hook ups for RVs found here, and the parking spaces are barely large enough to fit two vehicles. An extra vehicle parking area is provided along the field at the southern part of the campground.
There isn't much visual separation between most campsites, but they are generally well spaced from one another, and a few of the campsites (listed in the recommended campsite section below) offer a bit more privacy. The campground includes numerous amenities including free showers with ample hot water, a nice restroom, a playground and amphitheater, potable water and firewood that can be purchased from the camp host.
The Beaver Bay Shoreline Trail leads from the campground to Beaver Bay Beach. The short trail offers amazing views of Lake Pend Oreille and allows visitors to take a short hike to one of the area's nicest swimming holes. Other hiking options, boating access to the lake, and four disc golf courses make Farragut State Park a great place to visit, and Whitetail Campground is a nice base camp for recreating in the park.
Farragut State Park is a large complex with seven campgrounds and trails that link various parts of the park. During the busy summer season youth groups make use of the park, but the facilities remain open to other visitors year round. It was once a World War II naval training facility, where submarines made use of the depths of Lake Pend Oreille. Farragut State Park was named after David Farragut, the first admiral of the U.S. Navy, who was appointed during the Civil War. It became a state park in 1965.
