Eagles Rest is a great ride for those looking for a fair amount of climbing, cliff-top summit views and a long downhill. The lower trailhead and parking area are across the road from the top of Goodman Creek Trail. Gluttons for punishment can combine both rides for a serious day of climbing and descending.

Although it is possible to ride up the trail, the sane route uses gravel and paved forest roads to access the upper trailhead. Once there, the steep half-mile ride to the summit of Eagles Rest is well worth the effort. The view to the south from the wildflower strewn cliff-top meadow is expansive. Once you head down, get ready to roll. The trail has just enough curves to make it fun, while the root drops and rocks keep you on your toes. While it isn't a prerequisite, a full-suspension bike nicely smooths out the longer technical sections. Be sure to check out Ash Swale Shelter on the way down. This trail is particularly susceptible to damage when wet, so please consider riding elsewhere in the winter or after a big rainstorm.

This was a really nice trail, we did it this summer and it was nice and dry although a long slow incline it wasn't that hard. Perfect for two people and a dog.
Here is our trip in more detail.
