Davenport is a quaint beach town only 10 miles north of Santa Cruz, and it is home to some of the best beaches in the county. Parking for this municipal beach is free and is located off of Highway 1 and across from the few businesses that make up this town. A short access trail starts from the parking lot, crosses a railroad track, and reaches a three-way junction. Turn left to find the beach, and turn right right to find a great viewpoint. This trail does involve some minor climbing.

This moderately sized beach is shaped in a crescent and follows the cliff faces in both directions. The shoreline is sandy with a few big rocks that jut out of the water. A very small tide pool area is located on the south side of the beach, and eroded tunnels in the cliff faces can be found to the north. Davenport and Greyhound Rock are some of the only dog-friendly beaches north of Santa Cruz. The waves at this beach can be intense and unpredictable, so wading or swimming is not advised.
