Houghton M. Roberts Beach is among a chain of Monterey State Beaches located between Seaside Beach and Del Monte Beach. The beaches are sandy and flat with plenty of room to move around. People come here to enjoy beach-combing, kite flying, or just to soak up the sun. Kayakers, surfers, and stand-up paddleboarders launch from the shallow and generally calm waters this beach offers.

A hotel divides the two beach parking lots, which has plenty of room to park for free. Leashed dogs are allowed on this portion of the beach. Wildlife viewing is not as plentiful here as at the nearby Asilomar Marine Reserve or Point Pinos Lighthouse Reservation, but pelicans occasionally skim the water.
