Only 9 miles west of Sisters, Oregon lies one of the most spectacular and pristine rivers in Oregon, the Metolius.  The Metolius River West Trail has a few surprises as it meanders through classic Central Oregon wilderness teeming with old-growth ponderosa pine, incense cedar, Douglas fir, and patches of colorful wildflowers.  After only a short, one-third of a mile hike downstream you will reach a spring where crystal-clear water gushes out of the mossy hillside and feeds the river.   The trail continues through lush riverside vegetation and alongside plenty of tempting fishing holes before it rewards you with an informative stop at the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery.
