Mitchell Point is a great option for hikers of all ages because of its proximity to Mount Hood and the hike's low intensity. The trailhead offers restrooms and ample parking space, and it is easily accessible from the interstate. This is a great option for those searching for a round-trip hike that takes less than two hours and also provides rewarding views of the Columbia River Gorge.

The hike immediately gains elevation over a number of switchbacks. The hike is on the north side of the mountain, so expect to spend most of your time hiking in the shade until you get close to the top. The trail becomes exposed with cliffs on both sides as it approaches the summit, but there is sufficient space to set up a picnic and stretch out.

This was a great hike! It’s closer to 2 miles total distance with 1 mile up and 1 mile back down. The views of the gorge are fantastic!

Great steep little hike with some nice spring wildflowers! Distance was 1.75 miles round-trip by my GPS (we didn't do the Mitchell Spur side trail) with elevation gain of 1352'...these numbers are similar to other websites, so I think the stats on this page might need to be updated. Trail is over loose rock at times, but well-maintained.

This is a fun-and-easy hike to do any time of year, and it's easy to combine with another short hike in the Gorge such as Wahclella Falls
