This short ride just south of Florence is well worth the effort if you are in the area. After a short climb up an old road, the trail drops down to a delightful singletrack loop that leads to the shore of Siltcoos Lake. There are lots of slippery roots and blind corners on this challenging, intermediate trail. Ride the loop clockwise for maximum enjoyment. As you ride through the moss covered darkness of this older second-growth forest, watch for the gigantic stumps and ancient cedar snags that give some inkling of what this area must have been like before it was logged. There are a number of campsites along the lakeshore with picnic tables and fire rings, as well as a primitive outhouse. These sites are accessible only by the trail and by boat.
