The approach to Timberline Lodge can make you feel like you are being transported into a different era. Facing the lodge with snow piled high and parked cars behind you, you might as well be at the lodge for a ski weekend in 1950.

Millions of visitors have marveled at the craftsmanship of this National Historic Landmark since its dedication in 1937. One of many Works Progress Administration projects in Oregon, Timberline was constructed as a cooperative venture between workers and government to recognize, preserve and make accessible some of our nation’s most beautiful natural places.

Timberline Lodge sits at an elevation of 5,960 feet on Mount Hood’s southern slopes, only 60 miles from Portland. Today, visitors come to see the mountain's alpine flora and fauna, to stay overnight in one of the lodge’s charming, northwest-inspired rooms, and to ski, snowboard, snowshoe, mountain bike, or begin a mountaineering adventure to the summit. If you are interested in an interpretive tour, visit the Forest Service desk in the lodge. Tours are free and offered every weekend.
