Palo Verde is one of several places to enter to the beautiful Canyon Lake, which is the first reservoir along the Apache Trail when coming from Phoenix. Palo Verde is a popular spot to launch motorboats because of the paved access road, courtesy dock, and ample parking. More than just a boat ramp, the spot is also great for picnics, fishing, wading, and paddling.

Several shaded picnic areas with tables and grills are right near the water and a sheltered fishing cove. Toilets and trash cans are also provided, but no drinking water. Glass containers are prohibited. Access is free except for the Tonto National Forest Pass required for all parking in the area and a watercraft sticker for motorized boats. For paddle boats and boards, the adjacent Acacia Recreation Site is a somewhat quieter spot to put in the water.
