Located at the mouth of the Elkhorn Slough, Moss Landing State Beach is home to several species of plants, birds, and sea life, so the chances of catching a glimpse of wildlife are quite high. Though still challenged, the area is making a recovery from years of industrial impact. The parking lot sits right on the edge of the slough, and the Moss Landing Power Plant and harbor are visible just across the water.

From the parking lot, the path to the beach cuts through a Dune Restoration Zone designated to protect nesting birds and plant life. The beach is open and offers plenty of room for a walk, surf fishing, or a picnic. Sea debris and vegetation are a part of the scenery here, which is the norm for a lot of the beaches around Monterey Bay. Along the shore, you can usually find a flock of long-billed curlews digging for a meal.
