Pomponio State Beach is a small cove along the beautiful San Francisco Peninisula coast which joins San Gregorio, Pescadero and Bean Hollow in forming a chain of day use parks with fabulous views, crashing surf, and miles of sandy beach on which to walk.
Pomponio has a large picnic area on the bluff overlooking the creek and beach. With favorable tide conditions, it is possible to walk south 2 miles to Pescadero and north 2 miles to San Gregorio. The bluffs are not high at Pomponio, and it is easy to climb down to the beach on either side of the rocky point near the parking area. As always, be aware of the tides and watch for sneaker waves that can occasionally climb far up the beach. Currents can be fierce here, and there are no lifeguards on duty.
