A nearly symmetrical dome rising above Yosemite's south rim, Sentinel Dome offers one of the best panoramic views in Yosemite National Park for relatively little work. At just over a mile in length, the trail climbs gradually to the base of the dome, then switchbacks up to the summit on the dome's east-facing slope. Views from the top sweep from El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks in western Yosemite Valley to Half Dome, the Cathedral Range, and the Clark Range in the east.

The trailhead for Sentinel Dome is shared with Taft Point, located on Glacier Point Road 2 miles west of Glacier Point. For a longer outing, consider combining the two for a Sentinel Dome-Taft Point loop.
