The Paradise Royal Mountain Bike Trail is a must for anyone traveling through the King Range National Conservation Area with a mountain bike. With access to Tolkan Campground and Tolkan Mountain Bike Terrain Park, the Paradise Royal Mountain Bike Loop is a great activity to include in a multi-day adventure in the Lost Coast region. Situated above the small coastal town of Shelter Cove, the trail provides something for all skill levels to enjoy.

The 14-mile loop is intended to be ridden north, or clockwise, from the Paradise Royal Trailhead because of built features like bank turns, jumps, and technical sections. Alternate routes are available for all difficult sections. The loop is a great example of the rugged terrain and ecosystems that are characteristic of the King Range National Conservation Area.

The trail is broken up into six sections. Each section is described in detail at the kiosk of the trailhead. The trail follows heavily forested ridges away from the trailhead toward the Tolkan Terrain Park and Tolkan Campground before it descends into the first creek crossing at Bear Creek. A grueling climb leads you to of Paradise Ridge once you've crossed the creek, and there are ocean views and fire-swept stands of Douglas fir, tan oak, and Pacific madrone at the top. Traverse Paradise Ridge and make the fun descent with jumps, bank turns, and other technical features that leads you back to Bear Creek, where old-growth Douglas fir remain. After crossing Bear Creek again, one final climb leads you back to the trailhead.
