Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort contains over 120 miles of trails spread over more than 6,000 acres in the Tahoe-Donner area of the High Sierra. The trails receive daily grooming serving cross-country skiers along with snowshoers and snowkiters, and there are an array of trails dedicated for specific users.
Based out of their Summit Station the resort has multiple trail networks that range from beginner to expert. The resort offers gear rentals and lessons for all ages and ability levels.
Beginners can take lessons and stick to the teaching lanes near the lodge. Advanced beginners and intermediate skiers can head out into the network of trails that weave their way around lakes and hills and reach several warming huts spread throughout the resort. Expert skiers can head out on the longer trails that climb some nearby peaks and stretch from Devil's Peak and Point Mariah to Sugar Bowl Ski Resort.
The Summit Station provides maps with trails marked by difficulty level, and contains a retail store and cafe. Snowshoers are also welcome on the resort's dedicated snowshoe trails - several of which permit dogs. A brief description of several of the resorts trails can be found below:
Royal Gorge is open daily throughout the winter from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Though trails are groomed on a daily basis, especially main arterial trails throughout the resort, grooming is condition-dependent on others. The best way to approach your route may be to plan a direction to head in rather than planning for specific trails. An updated list of trail conditions is maintained online and inside the station lodge.
