Haviland Lake is conveniently located about a mile off of Highway 550 (the "Million Dollar Highway") between Durango and Silverton. This beautiful little lake is a popular fishing and boating (electric motor or human-powered) spot set in a pretty mountain valley. The campground is adjacent to the lake, and six of the campsites are right above the lake with a view. It is a typical national forest campground as far as amenities, though it does have 15 sites with electrical hookups. There are some rough spots on the roads, but large RVs can get around with care. Some of the sites are very private, and the distance from the highway makes it very quiet at night. Sites are a mix of long back-ins or pull-throughs, and others are more suited to tents or small vans/trailers. About half of the sites are reserveable, and the rest are first-come, first-served.
