Among the several campground choices in the Dillon Reservoir area, Peak One Campground may be the best compromise across many factors. It is closer to the lake and provides better access than Prospector Campground, but it is similar with regard to the low highway noise and remote feeling. It has far nicer RV sites than Pine Cove, and it is much quieter than Heaton Bay. Plus, Peak One does allow reservations; the only thing missing (for those who care) are any sites with hookups.

Comprised of three loops, all with a similar mix of sites, the campground has pretty good separation between most sites. Like much of the area around Dillon, the bark beetle has taken a toll and the only trees are fairly young pines, but the views of the surrounding Gore Range and Ten Mile Range are stunning in every direction.

The recreational opportunities nearby are many and varied. You'll find summer activities at the local ski areas, hiking and mountain biking on the local trails and the paved bike trail that circumnavigates the lake, and boating and fishing on the lake. Peak One is a great choice for a base camp while visiting this lovely area.
