Chalk Lake Fishing Area is a very pleasant spot to drop a fishing line right off of the paved Chalk Creek Road. It is also a great spot to have a picnic or just take a short stroll around the tiny lake with its overshadowing 14,000-foot mountains. The lake is barely a tenth of a mile across, and there is a flat trail all around it that is heavily trod by hopeful anglers. The inlet and outlet are very close together on the east end, with bridges over both.

The fishing is reputed to be quite good, but it is more for the casual fisherman than for those looking for the gold medal waters with trophy fish for which Colorado is justly famous.
