Perhaps one of the most popular beaches on the southern coast of Kaua'i, Poipu Beach Park has plenty to offer for all ages, from swimming and surfing to a picnic. During summer months, the otherwise large swells are much smaller, keeping the waters along the shore protected by the outer barrier. Rip currents and other potentially dangerous conditions can still exist, but knowledgeable lifeguards are stationed at the beach as well. The little island of sand just offshore is a nice spot to swim to (or walk to, depending on the tides). Fewer people head around the bank to the right, so on crowded weekends and holidays, head over there for extra space on the sand. To the left is an even more sheltered "kiddie pool," a playground, and picnic shelters. Across the street are some beach and surf rentals as well as a beach restaurant overlooking the water. Beachgoers may encounter a rare Hawaiian monk seal flopped up and resting on the beach. Large green sea turtles are often seen as well, as Po‘ipu is a nesting site. Remember to keep your distance from wildlife and their nests!

The parking lot fills up fast, especially on weekends, so go early. The park itself has public restrooms, freshwater rinse showers, picnic shelters, and charcoal grill pits. The green lawn behind the beach is also perfect for some more traditional blanket-style picnics.

A perfect beach to spend a vacation! Great for kids...and for photos! Turtles like to rest here at night in the summer.
