The Lake Anza Trail precariously skirts around its namesake, winding through tree roots and over eroding banks. Although the trail is well groomed and level near the bathhouses, signs warning of rough trails ahead are not to be ignored by those with small children or limited mobility. Open only to hikers, Lake Anza Trail is short but somewhat strenuous, requiring a bit of scrambling over rocks and jumping over submerged portions of the track.

Minnows, ducks and other wildlife can be seen from the 0.7-mile waterfront trail. Dogs are allowed in designated areas, and owners should maintain control to prevent any disruption to water fowl. Fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, and sunfish is allowed at Lake Anza without a district fishing access permit. A California fishing license is required, however.
