The Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail is a flat, easy out-and-back walking path along the edge of Lake Pend Oreille just north of City Beach in Sandpoint, Idaho. It’s perfect for walking, running, or biking, and even snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in the winter. This trail also provides waterfront access for people (and dogs) to enjoy the lake. Currently the trail ends after 1.5 miles, where private property begins. Future plans are to connect the trail to the other small communities along the lake and make it closer to 3 miles in length. More information about the goals of the trail can be found on the Friends of the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail website.

A portible toilet is located at the trailhead. The parking area at the trailhead is limited to about 10 cars, but additional parking can be found at City Beach parking area. From there, head north past the resort and condos along Sandpoint Avenue, and the trailhead will be at the end of the road.

Caution: Some areas of the lakeshore were part of the former Panhandle Smelting and Refining Company and contain heavy metals such as lead. It’s best to avoid the soils near the private property turnaround spot.
