A great summer destination for families, Swan Lake State Park offers supervised lake access and a host of amenities to help visitors enjoy the summer weather. Located just 40 minutes south of Bangor, Maine, on the north end of Swan Lake, the state park provides the only public access to the lake because the rest of the surrounding land is private.

The biggest draw to the park is a fine gravel beach, which is perfect for swimming and sunbathing in the warm summer months. A seasonal lifeguard keeps a watchful eye on the water. The park provides a few other amenities such as toilets, changing rooms, a child’s playground, and picnic tables with grills scattered amongst the trees. A larger group picnic shelter can be reserved for a fee. In addition to swimming, canoeing and fishing are also popular activities. The lake is home to a variety of fish such as smallmouth bass, perch, brook trout and even landlocked salmon.

This seasonal state park is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day for a fee. The gates are open daily from 9:00 a.m. until sunset during these months. During the offseason, people are still welcome to access the park by walking in from the gate. Please be aware that the restrooms and changing facilities will be closed.
