The Cave Lake Overlook Loop Trail is a moderately steep trail in Cave Lake State Park that gains about 900 feet in elevation, quickly rising to cool mountainous air and beautiful views across the lake and state park area.

Beginning at a trailhead on the upstream side of Cave Lake, the loop trail very quickly reaches a shady section and offers the option of hiking in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. The more gradual uphill slopes would be hiking in a clockwise direction. While the incline and decline do offer sporadic benches to rest or take in the views on and sporadic tree coverage, this area tends to be exposed to the high-elevation sun. There is no water located along the hike itself. In all, the trail covers about 4 miles and offers amazing views over the lake, not to mention almost non-existent crowds compared to those flocking to the lakeside and day-use areas.

Trash and a vault toilet are located at the trailhead parking area. One of the best parts of the hike is having the lake immediately accessible for a cool off swim upon reaching the bottom.
