Jenness State Beach is among one of several scenic beaches along New Hampshire’s 18-mile coastline. This 1.3-acre beach on the Atlantic Ocean is a family favorite and can get crowded on hot days in the summer. Open from April through October, the sandy beach is the perfect spot for picnicking, fishing, and swimming, with lifeguards on duty between 10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. each day. A seasonal bathhouse with showers is also available on site. Metered parking is located along the beach, so it’s never a long walk to reach the ocean. Please note that pets are not allowed on the beach during the busy season from May through September.

Jenness State Beach is also a popular spot for year-round surfing, with the smaller summer waves being great for beginners. Summer Sessions Surf Shop in Rye is located across the road from the beach, and there is a crosswalk leading from the shop to the shore. Summer Sessions Surf Shop offers affordable wetsuit rentals, surfboard and stand-up paddleboard rentals and lessons, and evening specials and board demos.
