The Sugarloaf Trail is a short hike in the White Mountains to two peaks with rewarding overlooks. The trail begins at the Sugarloaf Trailhead on Zealand Road off of U.S. 302. There are two trails that begin at this trailhead; be sure to cross the bridge over the Ammonoosuc River and look for the "Sugarloaf Trail" sign.

The trail begins following the Ammonoosuc River for a short while before turning left and climbing up to North Sugarloaf and Middle Sugarloaf peaks. It is 0.9 miles until the trail comes to an intersection where you can turn right and continue 0.3 miles to the top of North Sugarloaf.

After admiring the views atop North Sugarloaf, head back and continue until you get back to the junction. Continue straight for 0.4 miles to reach Middle Sugarloaf, where you will be rewarded with more amazing views. Return back on the same trail to get back to the parking lot.

Below are the hiking distances from the trailhead to just one peak:

  • Distance from parking lot to North Sugarloaf: 1.2 miles
  • Distance from parking lot to Middle Sugarloaf: 1.3 miles
