Mount Cabot is one of two 4,000-footers in the northern part of the White Mountain National Forest. While the summit is wooded, there are a few spots along the way that provide nice lookouts, and you can make a pit-stop for lunch at the cabin near the summit.

The parking area for this hike is near the Berlin Fish Hatchery. The hike begins on the Bunnell Notch Trail. After 0.2 miles you will reach the junction with the York Pond Trail. Keep right to stay on the Bunnell Notch Trail for 2.8 miles. The Bunnell Notch Trail begins following a grassy logging road that descends gradually and has a few stream crossings. At 0.9 miles there is a sign where the trail continues to the left. Shortly after, the trail climbs to a bank and then descends slightly to meet the edge of the stream. The trail continues to follow the stream up the valley. At 2.4 miles the trail turns right and climbs for the remaining 0.4 miles where it meets the Kilkenny Ridge Trail. Upon reaching the junction with the Kilkenny Ridge Trail, follow the Kilkenny Ridge Trail for the remaining 1.8 miles to the summit of Mount Cabot. Along the way there is short spur to an outlook from Bunnell Rock. After taking in the views, continue to the Mount Cabot Cabin, which is a nice place to take a break. From here you are about a half mile from the summit. There are a few nice views along the way to the wooded summit. Upon reaching the summit, trace your steps back to the parking area.
