This easy-to-get-to spot is a perfect spot for outings with families of all ages. It's paved 2-mile loop is wheelchair accessible, allows leashed dogs, and provides an easy walk along the waterfront, across bridges, and through some light forest growth.
There are constant opportunities to rest your feet along the path with designated seating areas to enjoy the view of the waterfront fountains, paddle boaters, native wildlife, and more. Due to the relative newness of this well-known spot, there is usually heavy foot traffic, but the path is wide enough for everyone to get their fair share of fresh air, as well as ample parking and more than enough Adirondack chairs to accommodate everyone.
The paddle boats may be rented just outside the Clipper Pavilion, a seating area complete with overhead coverage to protect from rain or shine, and public restrooms. While the water is great for paddle boating, recreational fishing, and wildlife viewing, there is no swimming allowed.
There are several free parking options available as well, including a large parking lot located right across the street from Clipper Pavilion and one located about 50 meters north of the Pavilion at McCloone's Boathouse Restaurant.
The paved path allows adventuring during every season, and the landscape of the trees and waterfront provides a different experience each time, whether you're taking in snow-covered branches, freshly bloomed flowers, or the colorful transformations between the seasons. During the warmer weather wildlife viewing is available including native plants, turtles, pelicans, and fish, as well as birds and the Turtleback Zoo just a short walk away.
Bordering this spot are restaurants and snack shops such as McCloone's Boathouse, where you can grab a drink and a meal, or, for a lighter fare, the Snack Shack located right next to Clipper Pavilion. On the far side of the path are the gates to the Turtleback Zoo and along a portion of the path runs a small, old-fashioned train from the Zoo providing children's tours of the reservation.
It is a great place to spend an evening out, an afternoon with the kids and/or the dog, or to go for a scenic jog!
