The wild Rio Grande runs through a vast gorge in northern New Mexico and is crossed by bridges in very few places. One notable crossing is the Taos Junction bridge near the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Rio Pueblo de Taos just north of Pilar. There is a boat ramp and swimming area under the bridge, and this tiny campground perched a short way up the wall of the gorge.

Taos Junction Campground is a dusty and bare place with partial views of the river from some of the campsites. There are basic facilities, but the main draw of this campground is its proximity to river recreation--paddling, swimming and fishing. The campground has a reserveable group day use and camping area for up to 40 people. There are some nice hikes in the area, including the very close trailhead for La Vista Verde Trail.
