The trail so nice, they named it twice. Located in Fahnestock State Park, the Fahnestock Trail packs views of ponds, streams, an abandoned house, and the surrounding mountains into a moderate 6-mile loop.

From the parking area at Hubbard Lodge, follow the white-blazed School Mountain Road Trail along Clove Creek, crossing it occasionally. Pay attention to the blazes, as many trails spur off the School Mountain Road Trail. Just before a creek crossing near the abandoned farmhouse, the yellow-blazed Perkins Trail departs on the right; taking this will bring you to the blue-blazed Fahnestock Trail. Turning right on the Fahnestock Trail takes you along a ridge that offers nice views of the Hudson Highlands State Park. Follow the blue blazes back down to the junction with the School Mountain Trail, and turn left to return to Hubbard Lodge.
