The Shawangunk Ridge trail (SRT) passes through Wurtsboro Ridge State Forest for 5 miles. This section is where you begin to climb the ridge when traveling south to north. It does have a few good views, but a local airport in the valley below has a lot of single-engine plan traffic, so on a nice day there is a frequent buzzing of low-flying planes. The SRT is the main trail through this state forest; there are only two other trails that give access to the SRT. Expect rocky terrain both on ascending and descending sections.
