Oyster Point is a small, tranquil campground tucked away in the woods at the edge of Croatan National Forest. Though it is just across the Newport River from Morehead City, getting here requires a roundabout drive northward, then south through a rural neighborhood, and finally a short and bumpy dirt road. If you don't mind the detour, this campground makes a suitable base camp for exploring area destinations like Atlantic Beach, Fort Macon State Park, Rachel Carson Reserve, and Shackleford Banks.

The campground has 15 simple sites with room for one or two vehicles, but no hookups. Amenities are basic. A handful of spigots provide potable water, and vault toilets are located at either end of the campground. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring with a grill, a tent pad, and a lantern pole. The road and substrate of the sites are gravel and dirt. Reservations are accepted but not required if sites are available. You can self register or check in with the host upon arrival.

The river is just a stone's throw through the trees. Brushy paths lead from some of the sites to the water, but there are no waterfront sites or ramps. Just outside the campground's front entrance is a public canoe launch, however. The parking lot here is shared with the Neusiok Trail, which traverses 21 miles of the national forest.
