If you’re looking for a beautiful place to stop along Highway 101 to explore Oregon’s sandy beaches, check out Muriel O. Ponsler Memorial State Scenic Viewpoint, located about 15 miles north of Florence. With around 5 miles of beach to explore, you will have plenty of space to roam around. The land was donated to the state of Oregon in 1938 by J.C. Ponsler in memory of his wife, Muriel. A stone memorial with a plaque is located in the parking lot.
The viewpoint is a great spot to watch for wildlife such as whales, seals, and birds. The picnic tables provide a nice spot to enjoy a snack or just sit and watch the waves roll in. The main parking area is small, but there is a long stretch right next to the highway that is large enough for a truck and trailer or RV.
