Campground Description

Campground Description

Team

House Rock Campground is one of several campgrounds along Highway 20 and the Historic Santiam Wagon route.  The campground itself is a little removed from the highway and located at the confluence of the South Santiam River and Sheep Creek.  The capacity of this campground is small, and the tight roads and turnouts within the campground keep this area feeling personal and tucked away.

The campground is comprised of two areas, the first near to Sheep Creek and the second a little farther upstream on the South Santiam.  Both areas have excellent sites that are close to the creek or river and enjoy ample shade.  Of course, you will see and hear your neighbors, but you will also have easy access to potable water and vault toilets.

The real advantages of this campground are in its location.  Camping here means you are just steps away from tantalizing swimming holes, not to mention walks to House Rock and House Rock Falls.  There is plenty to do in this area in terms of hiking, biking, and exploration; on the other hand, this is exactly the kind of campground that tempts you to linger over breakfast, maybe watch the morning slide into noon, and then eventually surrender your itinerary in favor of delicious swimming opportunities and relaxing summer shade.
