Campground Description

This campground is great for mountain bikers who want to sample some of the riding around Gray Butte as well as tent and RV campers looking for a relatively uncrowded taste of the high desert. If you're a climber looking for something cheaper and more expansive than the Bivouac Campground at Smith Rock, then Skull Hollow is the spot.  This moderately used campground offers large sites and an open desert feel only minutes from Highway 97 and Smith Rock State Park. The large, open sites have picnic tables and fire rings, as well as a few trees for shade. Watch out for rattlesnakes, as they have been seen in this campground. Listen for the wild calls of the coyotes at night as you fall asleep enveloped by the sweet smell of sage.
