Bald Hill Natural Area

Bald Hill Natural Area is a popular multi-use recreational area located in between Corvallis and Philomath, Oregon. Through a donation from Greenbelt Land Trust, the city of Corvallis now owns and operates the area. The area can be accessed by three different parking areas. The one detailed in this guide is located off of Oak Creek Road. The other two are located off of Reservoir Road and at the Benton County Fairgrounds.  

Each parking area is connected by a paved multi-use path. From this paved path there is a network of hiking trails that cut through diverse habitats. Open grasslands and the riparian areas of the many creeks dominate the lower elevation portions of this area before modest gains in elevations make way to oak woodlands and hilltop meadows. Fall and spring bring vibrant colors to the area with changing leaves and wildflowers respectively. The culmination of the trail network is the 745-foot summit of Bald Hill. The summit's back side offers expansive views of the coastal range and its highest point, Marys Peak, while the eastern view is of the Willamette Valley and distant views of the Cascade Foothills. The Bald Hill Barn is a picturesque rustic barn that is available to rent for private events. 

Many of the area's trails are open to horseback riding and mountain biking. Be sure to avoid trails marked for "hiking only."  Dogs are permitted on leash, and there is a small off-leash dog trail access from the paved path.  The 4-mile Mulkey Ridge Trail connects Bald Hill Natural Area to nearby Fitton Green Natural Area. Each trailhead in the area has an interpretive kiosk with area information and trail maps. Map posts are littered throughout the hiking trails as well. Much of the area is bordered by or passes through private property. Please respect any fencing or posted signs.
