Fitton Green Natural Area is located in the Coast Range foothills due west of Corvallis. Through the cooperation of private entinties and local government, this 308-acre conservation area is a vital habitat for many native plant and wildlife species. Generously, this area has remained open for public use since 2003. Maple groves, oak woodlands, as well as Douglas fir and conifer trees dominant the landscape apart from the hilltop meadow at the summit of Fitton Green. From the summit sweeping view of Marys Peak, the Coast Range, and the Willamette Valley are seen. On a clear day, the far off Cascade peaks are viewable to the east. Wildlife viewng opportunities include woodpeckers, songbirds, butterflies, squirrels, and black-tail deer. The area is also native to cougars, coyote, and elk. Numerous hiking trails intertwine the natural area. The most popular trail is the Allen Throop Loop that features the panoramic views atop upper meadow. The areas is also a destination for locals wishing to stargaze or see a meteor shower. The Mulkey Ridge Trail connects Fitton Green to the nearby Bald Hill Natural Area. Similarly, the Cardwell Hill Trail connects to the nearby trailhead of the same moniker.
