Established in 1927, Summit Ski Area has been getting people up and down the slopes longer than any other operation in Oregon.  Summit is located on the east end of Government Camp, where you can purchase affordable lift tickets or pay to ride their tubes on their maintained hill.

Alternately, you can choose to try their Snow Bunny area, 2 miles farther east on US-26 and directly across from the Trillium Lake parking area. A little farther away from the main center of operations, the Snow Bunny area is also a "pay to play" sledding situation that uses the runs that are cleared and maintained by Summit. The result is undoubtedly a safer hill, as the long, clear run-outs here are uncommon when sledding in the woods. Personal sledding devices are not allowed during business hours.

What you see from the parking lot is only the first level of opportunity. Take the small trail to the north to access a second hill with three long runs, or continue your march to find a third clearing with two more runs. Depending on the conditions, these slopes can be quite a thrill. With hard, fast snow in place it's easy to see why the area mandates the use of their tubes. In all, the area offers some great variety for those at both ends of the risk and reward spectrum. Combine these advantages with Snow Bunny's proximity to Portland, and it's easy to understand why this play area continues to be popular.
