Visitors may find Whispering Falls Campground ideal for its easy access to nearby trails into the Willamette foothills, but being located in an incredible river drainage has its benefits, as well. The North Santiam River swerves just above the campground and continues down a narrow section, creating some magnificent swimming opportunities along the way. Visitors will even have the chance to cool off in the pool just below the falls that Misery Creek creates as it rushes to join the North Fork Santiam River. The water here is cool and clear, and the river bottom varied. Bank access is easy from the campground, where certain sites overlook the river. Access to the river from other sites can still be had by following a short riverside trail. In addition to the main pool near the campground, a smaller pool and rocky area sits just downstream from the campground.

Areas like this are dynamic, beautiful, and fragile. Continued public enjoyment absolutely depends on responsible use. Please minimize your impact and do your best to help minimize the impacts of others; protect the land and your ability to access it. Also, swimmers should be very cautious with the currents upstream from the falls and downstream from the campground.
