Located just a few steps from Highway 410 and just below Naches Peak at the top of Chinook Pass, Tipsoo Lake is a great spot to stop for some of the park's best views of Mount Rainier. From this little lake, the appearance of the mountain is that of a hulking giant. If you have the time, taking the short loop trail that leads around the lake is the best way to enjoy the views. The nearly level path can be finished in a very short time if you complete the loop alone, though you'll also have the chance to loop around the side of Naches Peak. If you're visiting in the summer, the meadow around the lake displays a variety of wildflowers; in fall, the grasses turn into stunning shades of reds and yellows. Even without the hike, however, the view from Tipsoo Lake is well worth a stop.
