This 4-mile trail is a great way to get a taste of Long Hunter State Park. The loop begins at the Bakers Grove Trailhead. The Volunteer Trail also starts here and shares tread with the Day Loop until they split, about a half mile from the trailhead. After this split the Day Loop Trail travels close to the shore of Percy Priest Lake, with many opportunities to access the water. While it is an enjoyable hike in itself, perhaps the best thing is about the Day Loop is the opportunity to explore the many hidden beaches along the lake. Fishing opportunities are plentiful as well.

Continue along the Day Loop Trail until it again meets up with the Volunteer Trail. Take a right to head back to the parking lot (1.3 miles), or take a left to keep exploring. There are two backcountry campsites at the end of the Volunteer Trail (another 4.2 miles, one way, from here). These sites are available to reserve online.
