One of the earlier legal freeride trails in the Salt Lake City Area, Road to Arcylon is a great introduction to the discipline of freeride mountain biking. The fact that it works as a great, quick mountain bike trail ride near to Salt Lake City is just gravy.

The trail begins at the parking area to the west of Gorgoza Park. You’ll wrap around the little pond and head up the mountain. For the most part, the trail is clearly marked. However, there will be a fork in a thick aspen grove early on that may not be marked. You’ll want to hang a right here, and then just follow the signs up.

The top of the downhill freeride section is clearly marked with several warning signs as well as a rock garden to discourage tourists. However, the features are relatively small and are easily bypassed. There is little penalty on most of the features as well, so it is a great place to improve your skills.

After you get to the end of the freeride section there’s a small climb back up to the trail you rode in on. Again, it’s simply a matter of following the signs to get back to your car. With a bit of variety, challenge, and options for different skill levels, Road to Arcylon is a great Park City and Salt Lake City resource for freeride mountian biking.
