One of the best features about Fort Worden State Park is how easy it is to make it your home for a few days as you explore the beach, Port Townsend, and other historic stops in the Admiralty Inlet such as nearby Fort Townsend, Fort Flagler State Park, or Fort Casey State Park. If staying in one of the many converted and restored former military buildings isn't your style, Fort Worden also boasts two campsites that are great options for visitors with RVs, trailers, or tents.

Probably the most prominent campground is the Beach Campground located adjacent to the stunning Fort Worden Beach and near to the Point Wilson Lighthouse. For several reasons, this campground is a good choice for RVs and trailers, though tents are welcome as well. All sites in this campground are long, have full hookups, and are open and exposed. While there is very little in the way of privacy between sites or shelter from the elements, nearly every site has excellent views of Admiralty Inlet, Whidbey Island, and the North Cascades in the distance. This campground is close to the day use parking for the beach, the beach kitchen facilities, and the boat ramp located near the Marine Science Center. Restrooms and shower facilities are available.

The Upper Forest Campground is located in the southwest portion of the park near the Chinese Gardens Lake. This campground is much more sheltered than Beach Campground as the sites enjoy some protection from the elements. Douglas firs, madrones, vine maples, and rhododendrons keep this campground verdant and scenic. This also means you'll find a little more privacy between the sites. Unlike the Beach Campground, which shares the access to the beach with day use visitors, the Upper Forest Campground is a more dedicated area. The campground consists of 30 sites: five are primitive sites that are ideal for hikers and bikers, and the remaining 25 are large, easily accessible, and have water and electric hookups. A dump station is also available within the campground. Restrooms with showers are centrally located, and several trails leave from the campground leading to the Chinese Gardens, Battery Walker, and the North Beach Park. This campground is also nearer to the historic military residences and conference facilities.

All overnight facilities in Fort Worden State Park are open year round. Insulated water sources are available in the winter. All sites are available for reservation up to a year in advance, and reservations are strongly recommended.
