Campground Description

Campground Description

Team

Hoh Oxbow Campground rests on the Hoh River's banks at a horseshoe bend at a junction with Highway 101. The campground serves as one of the best overnight facilities for fishermen visiting the Olympic Peninsula. The campground itself is relatively primitive and offers only eight campsites and a vault toilet, but more critically, it has a steep boat ramp to access the Hoh River.

The Hoh River flows freely from Mount Olympus in the heart of the peninsula, and it is home to one of the most abundant natural salmon hatcheries in the contiguous United States. With glacial silty waters, most anglers prefer bright flies cast either from the banks or via drift boat. For those with a boat, popular put-ins off of Upper Hoh Road are at Willoughby Day Use Area (4.4 miles upriver) and Morgan's Crossing (8.5 miles upriver). Note that Hoh Oxbow Campground is the last take-out before the river meets the Pacific.
