Campground Description

Campground Description

Team

Simply put, John MacDonald Memorial Campground is the best camping spot for kids (or anyone) in the Seattle metro area.

Located within Tolt-MacDonald Park on the Snoqualmie River, the campground was the vision of John MacDonald, a Boy Scout Council Chief who knew his camping. It is strategically divided up into three areas:

  • An RV Camping Area: There are 16 sites that are easily accessible with large pull-through campsites (each equipped with water and electrical hook-ups).
  • A Yurt and Family Camping Area: Located across the suspension bridge, the area features six yurts (each sleeps five people, is heated, and has electrical outlets), two camping shelters called "cabins," numerous walk-in sites, a large picnic shelter (South Picnic Shelter), one group site, and an amphitheater.
  • Walk-in Camping Area: Removed and quiet for the more adventurous-minded and those seeking more solitude, these campsites north of the Yurt and Family Camping Area are well worth the 0.6-mile walk. The campsites are large, more private, and feature an open-meadow group campsite near the North Picnic Shelter.

Beyond the campground itself, campers will enjoy fishing or swimming in the Snoqualmie River, hiking on the park's trail network, and using the park's sports fields and playground.

Note: John MacDonald Memorial Campground is open year-round. To rent picnic shelters or any of the park's other facilities, call 206.205.5275, or 206-205-5434, or email King County at [email protected]. Yurts must reserved one week in advance. Further, for anyone camping in the Yurt and Family Area or the Walk-in Area, carts are provided to carry your gear.
