Hike Description

Hike Description

Rattlesnake ledge offers great views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, including Mount Si, Mount Washington, Rattlesnake Lake, and Chester Morse Lake, and many other smaller mountains and lakes. Views overlook the valley forested with green evergreen trees and extend even to part of North Bend on a clear day.

From the parking lot, follow the signs to a service road for 0.3 miles until you reach the trailhead. The elevation gain is moderate at first, allowing for a little warm up before the climbing begins. The trail is wide and very well maintained, and it leads through a second-growth forest with a few huge boulders laying around. The elevation throughout the whole hike is moderate and constant. Once you reach the top you'll find steep ledges and the potential for huge falls, so be careful and don't stand over them. A sign indicates the direction to the right ledge and the route to the east ledge. Visitors may want to jump over a fairly deep crevasse that is only a foot wide to enjoy the best views of the valley and the lake.
