Privately owned Reach Island, often referred to as Treasure Island, is located just north of Stretch Island in the Case Inlet of the Southern Puget Sound. Kayaking around Reach Island (originally named Oak Island) offers kayakers a relatively short paddle with opportunities to soak in the views of Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains. During the winter months, the waters are filled with migrating birds as well as the occasional seal. This is a great paddle for beginners as well as for experienced paddlers looking for a short day trip close to Tacoma. Paddling around Reach Island can easily be combined with a tour around Stretch Island or an exploration of North Bay.
