Spending some time at Port of Gray’s Harbor Observation Tower in Westport's Marina District is a great way to start exploring the Westport area. From the observation deck, a 360-degree view reveals the region’s landscape and the recreational activities at your disposal. On a clear day, it’s even possible to see the Olympic Range in the distance to the north.

Drawing your gaze back to the local scene, it’s likely several surfers will be attempting to catch a wave near the finger jetties known as the Groins just across the street from the tower. At this junction of Westhaven Drive and Neddie Rose Drive, visitors climb the rock wall to watch the surfers and to confirm just how far the bark of a sea lion can travel. Some then depart by car to go explore Westhaven State Park or Westport Light State Park to the south. Others choose to take advantage of the 1.5-mile handicap-accessible Westport Light Dune Trail at the base of the observation tower. This 8-foot wide concrete pathway traverses through the dune and grasses as far south as Grays Harbor Light Station, which can be seen in the distance to the south.

Whether you are interested in exploring Westport’s shoreline and marina district or venturing further south, just a few minutes at Port of Gray’s Harbor Observation Tower will help you to secure your bearings and launch you into a day’s adventure.
